Education Outside the Classroom
Sporting
Sport plays a key role in the development of our students. They learn in these activities to be competitive and supportive. They make friends and feel a sense of belonging. Through sport they also learn to accept a loss and develop resilience and fairplay.
Physical Education and Fitness are built into the weekly timetable. We use specialist coaches from outside the school to encourage students to try a wide range of sports.
Cultural
The school has an active Kapa Haka group who perform throughout the year. We have our own school haka, which all students learn. Every second year the school produces a musical. All students participate in the Venture Southland Speech Competition. We encourage all students to take part in the variety of cultural activities available.
Camp
All year 8 students attend a camp at Deep Cove in Fiordland. This camp is based around the Science and Physical Education curriculum. Other day trips are taken throughout the year to support curriculum areas.
Enviroschools
Longford Intermediate is a proud Enviro School. This means that we met a strict set of criteria and we had to prove that we were doing this. We are continuing to develop our skills in sustainability and improving our overall school environment.
