Curriculum
The teachers at Longford Intermediate School believe they provide the ideal environment for educating Year 7 and 8 students and are experienced in teaching and interacting with students at this level.
We work and plan collaboratively and look for opportunities to broaden the minds of our students and enrich all areas of the curriculum. Though the academic side of our job is first and foremost, we also focus on our school values, developing leadership and personal responsibility.
We provide expert assistance in the classroom programmes for students needing extra support.
All the classes at Longford Intermediate School have computers and iPads. We believe these are fantastic learning and teaching tools that combine computer technology, creativity and research skills.
At Longford Intermediate we acknowledge that students have a wide variety of gifts and abilities. Some of the accelerant programmes that will be available are; Leadership Development, Art Programmes, Public Speaking, Debating, Future Problem Solving, Otago University Maths Problem Challenge, Smac Maths, Movie Making, Writing Competitions, Drama, Music and Sporting Opportunities.
Longford Intermediate School encourages deep learning through a concept-based curriculum. Each concept encompasses the essential learning areas of Science, Social Sciences and Health with Literacy underpinning all activities. Numeracy and Literacy skills are also taught independently and are the foundation for teaching and learning at Longford Intermediate. Our teachers are highly skilled and trained in delivering quality lessons in these core subjects.
We deliver a programme which offers a sense of inquiry and independence in thought and action. We provide an environment where the students can be involved in the running of the school. Our curriculum assists the students in their preparation to be actively involved in the secondary school years and the world of tomorrow.
